Dorset Farmhouse Bed & Breakfast : Higher Lewell Farmhouse, a little bit about us

Higher Lewell Farmhouse was originally built in the 1760ís and the date can be seen clearly written in brick on the front of the house. The house is situated at the top of Hardys Row on the outskirts of the village backing on to fields. Hardys Row was named after Thomas Hardy's father who built 6 houses on the row to house the poor of the village.

The house and accommodation for guests consists of our kitchen where we invite you to have breakfast. We offer a relaxed help yourself breakfast of cereals, toast, fruit and yoghurt but are very happy to accommodate any dietary requirements or particular favourites. Due to our new baby, we are sorry but we are no longer serving a cooked breakfast. We have our own chickens so you may cook some eggs yourselves if you wish. Children are welcome to collect the eggs.

We have a large secluded garden behind the house with a seating area and an adjoining field for our chickens. We also have a room suitable for coats, boots and bikes.

Upstairs we have a double bedroom with TV and DVD player, and an en suite bathroom

The attic has been converted to create a beautiful bedroom and bathroom, you have the whole floor to yourself. The large bathroom has a roll top bath and a separate shower. The bedroom has a large double bed, 2 chairs to create a seating area and a large TV with DVD player. There is a small fridge for you to use with fresh milk, tea and coffee facilities in the hallway.

Guests are invited to arrive after 4.30pm and leave by 11.00am on the day of departure but we are very flexible and happy to help if these times are not suitable. We have ample parking on our private drive and we advise guests that the house is strictly no smoking.

We were both brought up on farms near Dorchester and have lived in the farmhouse for 10 years. We are keen walkers and can provide advice on beautiful walks, we have many, long and short.

We are happy to advise you on the hidden villages and countryside well off the beaten track, as well as the stately homes and gardens open to the public. We can also recommend pubs offering really good food, the best tea-rooms, antique shops and places that children would like to visit.
